Xiaomi has officially announced the launch date for its highly anticipated Mi 10 series of smartphones.
According to Xiaomi’s Weibo posts, the flagship lineup will be unveiled first in China, on February 13. This will be an online-only launch, possibly because of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in the country.
The Chinese launch of the Mi 10 series will be followed by a global unveiling in Barcelona, on February 23, a day ahead of MWC 2020.
What will Xiaomi launch?
Xiaomi is expected to launch two phones in the upcoming series — Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. The company has already confirmed that the series will feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Needless to say, both the Mi 10 and the Mi 10 Pro will be 5G-enabled devices.
Xiaomi has also posted an image of what looks like the Mi 10 Pro alongside its launch announcement post on Weibo. You can see the image below.
The image posted by Xiaomi confirms that at least one of the Mi 10 phones will feature a 108MP quad camera setup. It looks like this is the Mi 10 Pro because it matches previously leaked hands-on images of the phone.
The vanilla Mi 10, on the other hand, is expected to house a 64MP sensor instead of the 108MP shooter.
We also see the front of the phone in the image shared by Xiaomi. Both the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro will reportedly get a 6.5-inch OLED curved display with a 90Hz refresh rate. A punch hole can be seen on the top left corner of the screen where the selfie camera will reside.
Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro: Prices and availability
The Mi 10 Pro is tipped to start at 3,799 yuan (~$545) for its base 12GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. Meanwhile, the price of the regular Mi 10 is expected to start at 3,100 yuan (~$444).
The Mi 10 Pro is expected to go on sale in China on February 18, whereas the Mi 10 is said to go up for sale on February 14.
Given their global launch date, we can expect the Mi 10 series to release in Europe in the first week of March. However, preorders for the phones could open on launch day given that Xiaomi did the same for the Mi 9 last year.
It looks like Xiaomi has timed the launch of its Mi 10 series very close to Samsung’s Galaxy S20 lineup. The S20 trio will go official on February 11, two days ahead of the Mi 10 launch in China. Samsung’s flagships are also expected to go on sale in various markets around the same time as the Mi 10 series.
